Dmytro Grek. Project - Breathing of Space

The Breathing of Space project develops a reflection on the relationship between the material and the immaterial in contemporary sculpture. The author constructs the composition as a plastic formula of a state or moment of concentrated calmness between movement and stillness, between bodily presence and its possible disappearance. Detached from any specific narrative or iconographic certainty, these forms do not document an unambiguous symbolic meaning, opening up space for sensual and existential experiences instead.
The sculptures exist in a dialogue with their environment, not opposing it but entering into a subtle system of interdependencies. Air, light, distances between objects, pauses and silences are not a mere background but active components of artistic expression. Space is not filled with forms: to the contrary, it becomes expressive due to their restrained presence. Doves do not “signify” peace or freedom in the literal sense but rather embody a state of openness and vulnerable equilibrium that enables coexistence.
The sense of time plays a special role in the project. This is not the time of an event but the time of waiting, of a held breath, of an inner pause when a gesture has not yet occurred or has already passed. The sculptures capture this liminal point where movement exists only as a potential, and calmness brims with tension. In this state, the form’s material body seems to dissolve in the atmosphere, passing into the realm of almost immaterial experiences.
Breathing of Space highlights Dmitry Grek’s trademark attention to the inner silence of the image and to the humanistic dimension of sculpture. There are no spectacular gestures or straightforward declarations here; he emphasizes attentive listening to space and the possibility of silent presence instead. The sculpture becomes not an object to be dominated but a point of concentration that allows the viewer to experience freedom not as an idea but as a state: fragile and elusive but deeply human.
